Absolute Bobbins is a project set up by Alison Barton-Simmons, a stitching Boltonian, who first encountered a sewing machine in GCSE Textiles.

Since then, after a few years of tinkering with fabric, thread and pinking shears, Alison started to sell her bits and pieces to friends and family. The project has organically grown, and the bespoke items sold by Alison – purses, bags, scarves, baby items – will all now be available to buy through this site.

Absolute Bobbins also collaborates with Firespiral Slings, also based in the north west of England, to create baby wearing bags using their beautiful wrap cloth.

The 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – are very important to Absolute Bobbins, and Alison works hard to collect and reuse fabrics and breathe new life into materials through her projects.

And while there is always a stash of fabric at Absolute Bobbins HQ, Alison actively encourages customers to offer their own fabrics, old clothes and furnishings to become new items, whether it’s a curtain turned into a bag or an old top turned into a purse.
